Two of the 20 largest public accounting firms in the U.S.—BDO USA and CohnReznick—made Newsweek’s third annual ranking of the 100 Most Loved Workplaces in America.
The rankings recognize companies across the nation that have fostered employee-centric workplaces where team members feel appreciated, respected, and valued, according to Newsweek. Developed in collaboration with the Best Practice Institute (BPI), a research company and leadership development center, more than 2 million employees were surveyed at companies ranging in size from 50 employees to more than 10,000.
To identify the top 100 companies for the Newsweek ranking, companies were evaluated and scored as follows:

- 35% of the initial score was based on responses to BPI’s proprietary Love of Workplace Index survey.
- 25% was derived from analysis of external public ratings from sites such as Comparably, CareerBliss, Glassdoor, Indeed, and Google.
- 40% came from direct interviews with and written responses from company officials.
Newsweek then conducted additional research into every company on the list, as well as the top runners-up, to determine the final list of 100 companies and their rankings.
In 2023’s 100 Most Loved Workplaces in America ranking, BDO USA placed 59th and CohnReznick 62nd. Both firms were listed in the financial services category.
BDO made the list, according to Newsweek, because the firm “prides itself on championing flexibility and a purpose-driven culture where employees can ‘be their best selves.’ The approach seems to work: 92% of BDO professionals feel they belong there, according to an annual employee survey.”
“Everything we do and every decision we make starts with people,” Cathy Moy, chief people officer of BDO USA, said in a press release. “It fills me with pride knowing that we have built and are continuing to invest in a culture of belonging where our values and core purpose of helping people thrive every day serve as the roadmap for our growth as a firm.”
BDO got national media attention recently for changing its legal structure from the traditional public accounting firm partnership model to a professional services corporation. BDO also just established an employee stock ownership plan, which allows its more than 10,000 professionals to buy a shared stake in the firm.
CohnReznick is a Newsweek “most loved workplace” because “employees can check out different practice areas or industries on a short-term basis. There is CPA certification preparation and LinkedIn Learning access. The Individual Development Track provides personalized career development plans, coaching, mentoring and education.”
“Creating opportunities for our people is a core component of our firm purpose. We want our current team members, as well as those who might consider joining us, to know that as we continue to expand our geographic footprint and service offerings, we also continue to grow our investment in our people. Our commitment to our people and their professional development remains integral to providing top-tier service to our clients and communities,” said CohnReznick CEO David Kessler in a press release.
CohnReznick has made Newsweek’s 100 Most Loved Workplaces in America ranking all three years.
